Chris Evans

CEng BEng (Hons) MIET MCIBSE

Director

Chris’s engineering career started in 1984 on leaving school at 16, following in his father’s footsteps he embarked on an indentured apprenticeship with electrical contractor Crown House Engineering. Alongside practical training he completed City & Guilds (236 pts 1 & 2 – Electrical Installations) and ONC (Electrical Building Services) at South Thames College.

In 1988 Chris was offered the chance to change direction from contracting to consulting and started his design engineering training with Mecserve, completing an HNC (Electrical Building Services) in 1990. He started a part time BEng (Hons) degree (Electrical & Electronic Engineering) in 1990 before the industry hit recession at the end of the year. Determined to complete his studies Chris joined Butler & Young Associates in 1991 allowing his design training and career to continue.

Whilst at BYA he gained valuable experience in the surveying and design of electrical systems to many public and local authority buildings as well as completing projects on railways and the London Underground. In 1994 towards the end of his degree studies (& after getting married!) he returned to Mecserve to continue his design career. Chris graduated with 1st class honours in 1994 and spent the next 12 years at Mecserve progressing from Design Engineer to Senior Engineer, Associate (overseeing the electrical department) to eventually Director gaining wide experience in private client and developer commercial, education, retail and residential projects.

In 2006 Chris took the bold step to start his own design company Chris Evans Consulting with partner Ivan Rebello. The is where he found his calling in being able to provide design solutions from inception to completion for all range of project sectors whist maintaining the highest level of service and communication. Despite the long industry downturn from 2008 Chris Evans Consulting grew from strength to strength to a maximum of 20 staff before being acquired by M-E Engineers in 2018 where Chris became a director for the next 3 years.

In 2021 Chris decided to return to what he enjoys most, engineering design, establishing cream engineering services together with long time colleague Andrejs Maliss with a view to providing high quality practical designs which have been the bedrock of both their careers.
